John McCormick was born 30 Aug 1754 near Winchester Virginia. He died 8 Apr 1837 and is buried at the City Cemetery in Connersville, Indiana. He was married in 1785 to Catherine Drennen 1769-1862. He had eight sons and six daughters. John Jr. 1791-1825 married Bethia Case; William born 1793 married Susannah Woolverton; James 1797-1858 married Patsy Perkins; Catherine born in 1808; Mary 1813-1815. Source Page 269, Roster of Soldiers and Patriots of the American Revolution Buried in Indiana, 1938. DAR application of Altie Gladden Wheeler John McCormick enlisted twice from Virginia. This first enlistment was in the year 1776. His Captain was James Robinson under Colonel Christian. His sescond enlistment was also from Virginia. His Captain was James Shelby. His Colonels name was not stated. His third enlistment was from Pennsylvania in 1780 in Captain McCalls Company. After his first two terms of service, which were on the frontier of Virginia, he moved to Bedford County, Pennsylvania. He engaged in the Indian fight at Matapo River. His application for a pension was September 15, 1832. Hs residence Fayette County, Indiana. His age 78 years. After his death, his widow, Catherine, was pensioned until her death in February 1862. The evidence is founded upon information received from the War Department giving John McCormicks record as a soldier and his application for a pension. The records are to be found in the Record and Pension Office of the War Department. See National Number 5833. From Indiana Biographies:

Johns son, John Wesley McCormick, Jr., built the first white settlement in Indianapolis, a log cabin on the east bank of the White River in 1820, where he lived with his wife Bethia Case McCormick and their eight children. John Jr. also built a tavern where a meeting was held in June 1820 to decide the location of the capital of the new state of Indiana. In 1822 be became one of the first county commissioners of Indiana, and in 1825 the state capital was moved from Corydon to Indianapolis
