(Lawsuit Smith V Fugate, Wythe County Superior Court Chancery Pleas, Bk 5 beginning P 669, Montgomery county Marriges) Adam Sr. is thought by many to be a son of Gottlieb Lauffer who came from Germany to Maryland in the 1700s. The book EARLY ADVENTURES OF THE WESTERN WATERS, VOL II, by Mary Kegley p age 397 discusses Adam Runner living in Drapers Valley as early as 1786, on 230 acres of land on Macks Run. (Mongomery County Deed Book A, P402) Records indicate that he was definitely living in Wythe County Virginia in 1751 when his first child, Adam Runner, Jr. was born. Adam Sr. and his wife (name unknown) had a total of eight children.
Some say he was born in Germany. Some speculate that Adam Runner, Sr. was the son of a German immigrant, Gottlieb Lauffer, who came to the US in the early 1700s and settled in Maryland. Based on the information I have been able to locate to date, there is no record or other evidence that connects Adam Runner, Sr. to the Lauffer clan, which immigrated to America from the German State of Baden Wuertemberg. | | | | 0 | Children | Birth Death | Mother | Spouse | Grand Children |
