When Henry Sylvester Riley was born in 1728, in St. Marys, Maryland, British Colonial America, his father, John Basil Railey, was 40 and his mother, Mary Henrietta Joy, was 33. He married Ann Ensor about 1755, in St. Marys City, St. Marys, Maryland, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons. He died on 3 July 1829, in Perry, Missouri, United States, at the age of 101, and was buried in Saint Marys Of Barrens Cemetery, Perryville, Perry, Missouri, United States. English (Lancashire and Yorkshire): habitational name chiefly from High Ryley in Accrington (Lancashire) and Riley in Kirkburton, which was in the manor of Wakefield (Yorkshire). In some cases the name may derive from Riley Farm in Eyam (Derbyshire), Royley in Royton (Lancashire), or Rylah in Scarcliffe (Derbyshire). The placenames all come from Old English rȳge ‘rye’ + lēah ‘woodland clearing’. Irish: from Ó Raghailligh ‘descendant of Raghailleach’, Old Irish Roghallach. This is the name of a chieftain family in Cavan, related to the ORourkes. In Anglicized form it has also been confused with Ó Raithile found in Munster, usually Anglicized as ORahilly or Rahilly .
