His Great Migration bio says by 1612, based on his first marriage. Johns English ancestry is unknown. Neither his place of birth, nor his parents have been identified
| Notes: | According to Anderson, John Leavitt, Sr. married a woman whose name was unknown in about 1637. The speculation that Mary Lovett was his wife was probably due to the admission of Mary Lovett to the Dorchester church in 1638. Anderson goes on to say, however, that the family had already moved to Hingham, Massachusetts before the second church was organized, so it unlikely to be the name of Johns first wife. Johns first wife died July 3, 1646, at Hingham, Massachusetts
