9710 Individuals in our Database | | | | Edith Notes: | Recent research has revealed that the given name of Lyonell Chiltons first wife, the mother of his children, was probably Edith (LNAB unknown).[1] There are three "Chilton" burials in the registers of St. Pauls between 1569 and 1582.[1] 25 Nov 1579 Edith Chilton 27 Feb 1581/2 Lionell Chilton. This is a 9 m. old grandson (son of John) 25 Jan 1582/3 Lionell Chilton. This is Lionell who made his will in Sept 1582. By elimination this leaves Edith as a likely candidate to be the wife of Lyonell. In addition as circumstantial evidence: Lyonells dtr Alice named her daughter "Edith" seventeen months after the death of Edith Chilton. Also Isabel Furner, the second wife, her husband was buried 29 July 1579. Both families having young children it would have been expedient for them to remarry at about the same time.[1]
