He is the first of seven men who settled in Manchester in 1650 [and] is recorded in the town records of Manchester as of Cheshire, England."[1] Following some discussion of descendants claims, Lee suggests, "the line of descent is unknown and certainly unproven." | | | Birth Date | 1637 | Death Date | 1690 | Father | | Born: | Died: | Mother | | Born: | | Mary MAREY Notes: | Mary was probably born about 1638, based on the date her first child was born.[1] Her parentage and ancestry are unknown. She married first in Massachusetts, before 2 August 1657 (birth of child, Richard Lee),[1] Henry Lee, who died in Manchester, Essex, Massachusetts, 21 May 1675.[citation needed] The will of Henry Lea of Manchester, Massachusetts, made on 12 Feb 1674, names his wife Mary.[2] Mary (_____) Lee married second, in Beverly, 1 June 1674, widower John West.[3][4][5] See the Research Note below. John West died in Beverly, 6 October 1683.[citation needed] As his second wife, Mary would have been the step-mother of John Wests children. Consistent with nomenclature of the day, Mary was called Thomas Wests "mother in law" in some historical records. The death of Mary (______) (Lee) West was not recorded, but an agreement between her three surviving sons, dated 7 Nov 1690, calls her "Mary West, widow, Manchester, decd on ye 28th day of October, 1690," and the agreement names Henry Ley as her first husband and says that she was named in his will | Individual Notes: | The 1888 Lee genealogy says that Mary (Unknown) Lee married, as her second husband, Thomas West and had a daughter baptized on 12 Mar 1676. That is contradicted by her marriage record in both Manchester and Beverly (cited above), which names her as the bride of John West, and no record has been found of a daughter of a John, Thomas, or Mary West who was baptized on that date, either at Beverly or at Manchester. (Research Note by WikiTree contributor Stu Bloom, 25 Sep 2020) A prior version of this profile reported Mary (Unknown) (Lee) West died 2 Apr 1675.[7] This seems in error, as a later dated agreement between three of her sons reports, "Mary West, widow, Manchester, decd on ye 28th day of October, 1690," and the agreement names Henry Ley as her first husband and says that she was named in his will. | | | 1 | Children | Birth Death | Mother | Spouse | Grand Children | 1 | Samuel Lee ESQ | b.1677 Manchester, Essex, Massachusetts Bay d.1754 Manchester, Essex, Massachusetts Bay | Mary | Rebecca Masters | 1 Samuel Lee Justice b.1694 | |
