John Samuel Majors, Jr. assisted in establishing American Independence as a Private, Capt Goode and Locke’s Company, Col Joseph William’s Regiment, North Carolina Militia. His service is documented in his pension application S16944 at the U.S. National Archives & Records Administration. He applied for and received a pension for his military service, filed on 24 September 1832 in Wayne County, Kentucky. John (son of John Samuel Majors, Sr. and Rebecca Pollard) was born 22 April 1759, Baltimore, Maryland; died 27 December 1844, Clay County, Missouri; and buried Watkins Mill Cemetery, Clay County, Missouri. John married Nancy Wright on 31 October 1782, Wilkes County, North Carolina. Nancy was born 1763, Baltimore, Maryland and died after 1804 possibly in North Carolina or Tennessee. Children:  Alexandra Majors (1793- ). Alexandra married James Koger.  Rhonda Majors (1796- ). Rhonda married Robert Gragg.  Lois Majors (1799-1874). Lois first married Thomas Koger, second married James Prevo.  John Samuel Majors III (1801-1844). John married Elizabeth Huffaker.  Elisha Majors (1804-1878). Elisha married Catherine Huffaker. Watkins Mill Cemetery was originally the Majors family burial ground and is at 17000 Endsley Road, Kearney, Clay County, Missouri, which is in the Watkins Mill State Park. John Majors’ gravesite has been marked by the DAR Alexander Doniphan Chapter and is located at: N39° 24 05.23" and W94° 15 06.11" Revolutionary War Patriot moved to Surry Co NC as a youth enlisted there and returned after the war John Majors, a Revolutionary soldier, born April 22, 1759 and died December 22, 1844. He came to Clay County, Mo., from Wayne County, Kentucky in 1838. After coming to Clay County he lived only six years. Soon after arriving he pointed to a spot on a hill near the old home, 3 1/2 miles northwest of Excelsior Springs, MO., and said, "This is where I want to be buried." His wishes were carried out and so began the Majors burying ground. Record of war service: Date of enlistment and length of service: July or August, 1776, 5 months 14 days. Officers: Richard Goode, Joseph Williams, N. Caro. Oct. 10, 1779. 5 months 1780-1781 service about 1 year, Minute Men James Sheppard, Bostick, Smith, Looin, Major Winston, Locke, N. Car.; 1781 served 3 months, Minor Smith Light Horse Service. Battles engaged in: Waccaman and Guilford, Residence of Soldier at Enlistment, Surry Co., N. Car., Date of application for pension, Sept 24, 1832. Residence at date of application, Wayne Co., KY., age at date of application, born April, 1759 in Baltimore, Md. Remarks: Lived in Clay county, Mo. in 1838. For date of last payment of pension: $80 per 12 months and probable date of death, Sept. 4, 1844. About 1908, the Elizabeth Benton chapter of DAR, Kansas City, MO., placed a Revolutionary marker on the grave of John Majors from the department of Interior, Washington, D. C., Feb. 6, 1908.
