The name is pronounced as though it were spelled The legend as to the beginning of the family name is that Julius CAESAR, while inspecting the Roman military camp at Gaul at twilight, was surrounded by hostile Gaelic warriors. CAESAR's bravery caused the leader of the band to spare his life. In the course of time that leader, himself a captive of CAESAR, was freed and made a personal attendant of CARSAR. Although Romans only were permitted to bear arms, an exception was made for that Gaelic leader, and he became known by the latin names of Born in Venice, Italy. Most genealogies contain an additional son named Zachary who purportedly dies in 1726 in Essex. There seems to be no documentation of this person. Festus Morgan writes to King that he thinks his existence is a confusion with Zachary, son of John the Ranger. Since we know that Francis has seven heirs (the Mason v T Chancery suit in Essex COB 5:434), unless Francis Jr died before 1710, Zachary probably does not exist. Fairfax Harrison [VM 30:333] says T Mount was on the river just below Port Royal. Lanciano follows this to argue that both the river land below Port Royal and the land at Mount Creek were called
