Notes:
Notes for Lewis Eastwood He lived at Allentown, Monmouth County, New Jersey and owned a tannery. According to the "History of Orange Co. NY", by Ruttenber & Clark, Lewis Eastwood lived in the town of Warwick in September 1775 when his land was assessed at the value of 5 s. 3 p. Of the seventy families living in District Number 9, his land was among the least valuable. This district comprised evidently the southern portion of the present town of Goshen, the Florida neighborhood of Warwick, and southward to the vicinity of Mount Eve. Letter of Asa Eastwood, dated 12 Jul 1824, states: "I have just returned from Virginia to New York, and find all our people in good health, we had a pleasant, tho rather a dull passage of six days at sea." In letter from John Eastwood to his brother Asa, dated Troy 7 Feb 1814, he indicates that their parents live in New York. In letter from John Eastwood to his brother Asa, dated Troy Oct 24, 1812, he states: I wish to know concerning my father and step-mother. In letter dated Mar 14, 1821, it indicates: our parents have come back to New York and are in very poor circumstances. From the diary of Asa Eastwood: "My father moved from Allentown, New Jersey when I was a child, to Goshen State of New York, from there to Schenetady from thence to Blastown, from thence to Lolenburgh, from thence to Kinder Hook, from thence to Harperfield from there to Catskill from thence to Red Hook. Living in some place from several years and in other for several months only in the former place he carried on his trade in an extensive manner which was that of Tanner and Currier in Balston. My mother died when I was about nine years of age (1790), and my father married in about a year thereafter, my father accumulated the former part of his life a considerable of property, but a few years after the loss his wife he took to drink and in a few years therafter he ran through the whole of his property, the last loss being made in Harpersfield of about two thousand dollars. From Red Hook he removed to New York in the year 1794, where by means of being a cartman and other employment for his children he made a decent living, but by reason of the low circumstances he was in after I arrived to years of disgresion I obtained but a small share." Diary of Asa Eastwood: Lewis Eastwood Senr died in the City of New York on the 6th day of April 1829 aged about 83 years.
