In 1856 he married Harriett Harmer. They had two sons: Fred Henry Smith and George Eugene Smith. Sometime after 1860 and before 1864 Myron moved to Faribault County, Minnesota. Movng with him were his two brothers, Heman Reed Smith and George Alonzo Smith. His parents, Thaddeus and Rebekah, remained in New York, as did his sister Mary Mariah (Smith) Barnes. The three brothers each homesteaded 160 acres. In 1864, Myron served in the Union Army, fighting in a battle in Gallatin, Tennesse in March, 1864. [1] In 1866, his mother died and his father moved from New York to Minnesota Lake to live near his three sons. His father, Thaddeus Smith was a veteran of the war of 1812. Thaddeus died and is buried in Minnesota. In 1889, Myron was awarded an invalid pension for his service during the war.[2] In 1900, he and Harriett moved from Minnesota to Harris, Texas, to live in warm weather near their son, Fred Henry. | | |
