A one Agatha Vincent was documented in county Sussex, England (modern day Great Britain or United Kingdom) in 1296 AD. A one Miles Vincent owned land at Swinford, county Leicester, around 1316 AD The masculine given name that was the source of this surname derives from the Latin or Roman name Vincentius, which derives from the word vincere, meaning to conquer. | | Amelia Vincent b.1788 OCT 04 | Father: Joshua Vincent Sr. Mother: Eleanor Maxon | married Judge Clark Crandall March 9, 1806 | | Andrew Vincent b.1474 d.1521 FEB 21 | Father: Mother: | | | Andrew Vincent b.1525 d.1581 | Father: Nicholas Vincent Mother: | | | Betsy Vincent b.1774 | Father: William A. He died in 1637, in Amesbury, Wiltshire, England, at the age of 27 Note: Many sources list this person as "Thomas Vincent" or "Thomas Nichol as Vincent". However, the baptismal records of the Church of England in Amesbury clearly show the parents of William (chr. 1638)--as well as Thomas, Joane, and Nichols--as Nicholas and Frittisweed Vincent. ( The source of "Thomas" is apparently mistaken information from Rev. Phelps of Amesbury that was published in 1901 by D. H. Carpenter.) William Vincent came to America from Amesbury, Wiltshire, England, about 1660, and settled in Providence. He married Priscilla Carpenter and had three children. Their son Nicholas married Elizabeth Reynolds and located in Westerly as early as 1724. A son William by the latter union (one of ten children), married Zeruiah Rtidd, to whom were born ten children. However he was christened on 19 August 1827. He came to America before 1855. His death certificate says that he worked as a laborer. He and his family lived in Minnesota in 1855 when his daughter Sarah was born. At some point he left the family and his wife and children ended up in Illinois. He was not heard of for at least 25 years. His first contact at that time seems to be a letter to his daughter Sarah in Illinois requesting $10 for an eye operation. On December 17, 1903 William wrote to his daughter Sarah from his home in Omaha, Nebraska. The letter indicates that it was the first contact he had made in 25 years. In the letter he also tells Sarah that he had three brothers -- John, Charles, and Robert. He also asked his daughter for $10 for an eye operation. Sarah and her husband, Amos Conklin worked hard to put together the money and sent it to him. William died on 12 January 1907 in Omaha, Nebraska. He is buried in the Potters Field at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha. His second wife was Nancy. A letter dated Dec. 17, 1903 from William to daughter Sara says he had 3 brothers -- John,Charles, and Robert. Letter also indicates its the first contact hes made in 25 years. Death certificate says B. England about 80 years old, no birth date, parents place of birth unknown. Death cert. says he is widowed which is strange since his "wife" Nancy wrote letters to his daughter Sarah after his death. He died of arteriosclerosis and senility. He is buried in "Potters Field section of the cemetery in Omaha Nebraska. Per 1900 census, he emigrated in 1855 and became naturalized in PA or maybe WA.
